Microsoft previews Windows 8 on ARM and x86



Microsoft has previewed Windows 8 running on different platforms at a partner event at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan.

Earlier, Steven Sinofsky revealed Windows 8 at AllThingsD conference and a demo was given. However, Microsoft also held a partner preview event in which Windows 8 was shown running on x86 architecture and ARM chips from different vendors. New Windows 8 OOBE and Gestures Animation [Videos]



Two videos have surfaced after Windows 8 Build 7955 leak showing new OOBE and some tablet specific features.

Immersive: Tile Based Interface for Windows 8 Tablets ?



References to Immersive Shell has been supposedly found in Windows 8, as reported by GeekSmack.

According to their sources, multiple references in recent Windows 8 Builds have been found which indicate towards a tile based interface for Tablets and other form factors. It is somewhat contrary to earlier reports which suggested that UI is named “Mosh”. READ MORE »

Nokia working on Windows 8 Tablet PC: Rumor



Reportedly, Nokia is working on a Windows 8 Tablet PC which is actually a result of Microsoft and Nokia Alliance declared last month.

Taiwanese Component Manufacturers Weighing ARM Products for Windows 8

Windows 8 Slate UI to be Demoed in June 2011: Rumor



Microsoft is likely going to demo Windows 8 Slate user interface in June, says Business Insider. Their source in Microsoft claims that Microsoft has adopted Apple’s approach to design the interface of Windows 8 Slates. The interface will be inspired by “Metro” which is interface for Windows Phone 7. Windows 8 Slate demo in June does not seem awkward as Microsoft has earlier showcased its upcoming products around same time in WSJ’s D: All Things Digital Conference. Windows 8 ARM based Tablets may launch before Expectations?



It appears that Microsoft is planning to launch Windows 8 ARM before the desktop versions. We have earlier seen a leaked Dell road map which suggested Windows 8 based tablet launch in early 2012. According to Adam Holt who is research analyst in Morgan Stanley, Microsoft‘s strategy for tablets is “closer to competitive ARM based tablets on Win 8 than some realize.” READ MORE »

Windows 8 Slates to hit Market in early 2012 ?



According to a product roadmap leak, Dell is working on Windows 8 tablet called “Peju” which is slated for release Q1 2012. It is very surprising as we have been listening that Windows 8 release date is late 2012 or Q1 2013. A release of product in Q1 2012 means that Windows 8 would be ready by late 2011 which looks unrealistic. It does not coincide with release cycle of Windows as well. READ MORE »
