How to Uninstall or Remove Windows 8
For some reason, you cannot get used to Windows 8 and want to uninstall or remove it from PC. The most possible reason to uninstall Windows 8 can be Start Menu with Metro Style and Tiles. In this case, you can disable it and get Windows 7 like Start Menu.
For any other reason, you can uninstall and downgrade to earlier versions like Windows 7. Here are the possible cases in which Windows 8 is installed.
Case 1: Dual Booting Windows 8 and 7
Your PC Dual Boots Windows 8 and 7. It is pretty straight forward to uninstall Windows 8 and keep Windows 7 only. You have to boot in Windows 7
Removing Boot Menu Entry of Windows 8
Method 1:
Go to Start Menu and type “msconfig”. Press Enter key or click on the utility in search results.
or
Press Windows Logo + R and type “msconfig”. Press Enter key or click Ok.
Navigate to “Boot” tab and select boot entry titled “Windows 8″ or related if you have changed it. Click on Delete.
Boot settings will now look like this. Click “Ok”.
Method 2:
Download EasyBCD. Run it and go to Edit Boot Menu
Select Windows 8 entry and click Delete. A confirmation box will open. Select Ok.
Click Save Setting at bottom.
Format Windows 8 Drive
Now, go to My Computer. Right Click on the drive where Windows 8 is installed and select Format.
Change the options in Format dialog box if you want to. Otherwise, just press “Start” and you have uninstalled Windows 8 from your PC safely.
Case 2: Windows 8 installed by removing existing OS or to a new PC without any OS
If Windows 8 was installed by removing an earlier version like Windows 7/Vista or it was installed on fresh Machine, you would require a bootable installation media of Windows 7 or other operating system like USB or DVD. Boot from your installation media, format the drive where Windows 8 is installed and proceed to install other operating system.
Case 3: Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8
As of writing this article, Windows 8 developer preview build is available which does not support upgrade from operating system like Windows 7 or Vista. Therefore, above two cases are true. Once, the support to upgrade is available, we will update you on how to downgrade Windows 8 or uninstall it.
